Dogs and Sproglets

The dog wakes makes me take him for a walk
And I start my day
I know it really starts before I'm even up
At least it feels that way
The day is always there for me
The world is waiting there for me
It sets the stage- a room; a cage
Got some babies, maybe two or maybe five
Guess it's all the same
They keep my head up and they help me stay alive
I think I'm glad they came
My only reason sees an open shelled world
And they partake at will
I know it's really not the way the conch curls
I guard their optimism still
They spring forth, they sprung forth
They sproglets are keep me sane
Dogs and sproglets keep me sane

Violent Stranger

I dreamt of a better time
Looked down the barrel of a colt, 5 shots down
Dreamt of the woman that I left behind
She's just a fragment of a memory buried in my mind
There's no looking back at that dusty road
Too many enemies are left face down
Dreamt of a day that I could rewind
To a time that wasn't hurried and so out of line
His heart was black and his aim was sharp
I've been struck by a violent stranger
And it won't be long until I'm gone
I've been caught blind by a violent stranger
And it won't be long until I'm gone
I saw the smile of an empty man
He held his past down with a steady hand
I matched his posture, an aggressive stance
Familiar overture to a deadly dance
Reached to my side for my saving grace
As he sealed the door to my grave
No time to beg and no time to pray
Looked down the barrel, now 6 shots down
My epic journey toward the western front
has come to it its bitter end
May his be more bitter still
May he be the vultures freshest kill

Riot Grrrl Prince

She was a prince among the roughest ruffian scene
I saw her time to time, from show to show, you know what I mean
Deep beneath her pixie cut, I know there pulsed a beating brain
I saw her raw, but in my heart I knew the feeling was in vain
She was a prince
We went for joe after the show, and she sat down next to me
She said she liked her men like her coffee, and then she ordered tea
She said to come on by, we'll paint a mural on her wall
I didn't know just what that meant, but of course I went, paintbrush and all
She was a prince
One day she made some prints and I helped her hang em up and down
Around a gallery, she said to me, "Don't make a fuckin sound!"
Well, deep inside I must have known this moment would be my last
So I let the die be cast, I followed her as we trespassed
And we hung the prints
